The Smithton School Student of the Month for September 2023 is Blase Gilbreth. Blase was chosen for this award by the faculty and administration of the school. The award was presented to Blase for displaying a good work ethic, outstanding character, and good behavior. Blase also shows respect, leadership, willingness to help her peers, and kindness to others. Blase will receive a plaque and a gift card from the school. Blase is the son of Anthony and Angela Gilbreth. He likes bowling, running and occasionally gaming friends. Blase would love to get a dog soon. His favorite quote is, "If it's worth doing, it's worth overdoing."

Welcome new Jr. High Teacher, Mr. Whetstone to Smithton School!  Mr. Whetstone comes to us after spending time at Althoff Catholic High School & Mascoutah High School.  He received his bachelors degree from SIU - Carbondale and his Masters in Education from McKendree University.  Mr. Whetstone is married to Lyndsey and has two daughters, Rylei & Marlee, and two dogs.  In his free time, Mr. Whetstone likes to exercise, coach football, run his gym and spend time outdoors camping & hiking.   Mr. Whetstone is excited to work at Smithton to be in a school that seems to work together to create a great structured experience for the students. Welcome our new Athletic Director, Brendan Hand! Brendan comes to us as our Boys Basketball coach & AD after spending time as Waterloo High School's assistant boys baseball coach. He also spent time coaching Millstadt Xplosion and Southern Storm youth baseball teams. Brendan has his bachelors degree in Mass Communication with an emphasis in Sports Mgmt & Sports Information from Lindenwood University - Belleville. Brendan and his wife Taylor live in Smithon and welcomed their son Brooks in October 2022. In his free time Brendan enjoys spending time with his family, traveling and playing golf. Brendan is excited to join Smithton School to work with the incredible staff and work together to grow the Athletics Department within the school walls and out in the community.
