Mrs. LaFrence’s 5th grade class ended their unit on matter by demonstrating how chemical changes could occur.

Students created a mixture of baking soda and water. They took that mixture and wrote a secret message on a blank sheet of paper. Once the water evaporated, all that was left on their paper was a trail of baking soda crystals. Students then used blueberries to reveal their secret message. The students discovered that  purple pigment from the blueberries reacted with the baking soda crystals to form a new substance.

Very cool!
